Jewish Studies Program named after the Stroums
The UW College of Arts and Sciences has announced that the Jewish Studies Program in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies is being named The Samuel and Althea Stroum Jewish Studies Program, in recognition of the Stroums’ steadfast commitment and dedication to the University.
Kellye Testy selected as dean of the UW School of Law
UW Provost Phyllis Wise has announced that Kellye Testy, who currently is dean and professor of law at Seattle University, will become dean of the UW School of Law, effective Sept. 1. She also will be named the James W. Mifflin University Professor.
Kosher, halal deli sandwiches now available on campus
Housing and Food Services has begun offering deli sandwiches on campus that satisfy the dietary requirements of both the Jewish and Muslim faiths.

Dreaming big: New Center for Teaching and Learning to draw expertise campuswide
Three campus units are teaming up to create the new Center for Teaching and Learning, a center focused on teaching, consulting, mentoring, outreach and more.
Class Notes: Students research ways to make UW campus more sustainable
In a class titled For Your Information: Roots and Realities of Sustainability, students study the tenets of sustainability and then analyze the campus to figure out how water-related operations could be more sustainable. The class will present its findings to the UW community on June 9 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. in 274 Mary Gates.

Washington Supreme Court comes to UW law school
As part of the Court in the Community Program, the Washington State Supreme Court will visit the UW School of Law on Tuesday, May 19. The justices will hear oral arguments in three cases in a session open to the public.

Hear Charles Holt. His journey has taken him from being an aspiring professional football player to the business world and eventually to where he is today — a multi-talented actor and singer.

Astro-Scholar. Astronaut Scholar Pavan Vaswani will talk about his experiences at the Ninth Annual Astronaut Scholar Technical Conference and the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame Induction celebration. Presented by the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium.

Guitar ensemble. Students of Michael Partington present music for guitar from the Renaissance to the 21st century.

UW Bothell 5K. The fourth annual UW Bothell 5K Run-Walk. Last year's 5K fielded a record turnout as hundreds of runners and walkers enjoyed the scenic campus while helping raise nearly $7,000 for the UW Bothell Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Stroum Lectures. The 34th annual Stroum Lecture Series, "Encounters with the Past: Remembering the ‘Bygone' in Israeli Culture." Roethke reading. The 46th annual Theodore Roethke Memorial Poetry Reading, by Paul Muldoon, Princeton faculty member and the poetry editor of The New Yorker.

Tuesday 05/19
Marian Anderson String Quartet. Formed in 1989, this African American ensemble makes creating new and diverse audiences for chamber music an integral part of its mission. The group has performed in venues ranging from soup kitchens to the Lincoln and Kennedy centers.

Wednesday 05/20
'Foot, Hand, Drum.' Musical groups share the satisfying sounds of percussion from various geographic areas of the world. The audience will be guided through the experience and exposed to not only the music but also the meaning and richness of the cultures.
