A Husky celebration takes place Tuesday at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, as Horizon Air celebrates the first flight of a plane bearing the UW colors. Harry the Husky and, from left, cheerleaders Rosslyn Luke, Brittany Degen, Olivia Michalak, Megan Wend, Carolyn Schuetz and Ryan Petrosky help send the plane on its way in grand style. The plane is one of four that Horizon Air painted with the colors of Northwest schools. The others are Washington State, the University of Oregon and Oregon State.

One-man show tells tales of black gay men in the South
A one-man play, Pouring Tea: Black Gay Men of the South, will be performed Feb. 27 at UW Bothell and its author, from Northwestern University, will speak at the UW Seattle campus on Feb. 28.
Physician, musician, composer, actress all one in ‘Charisma’
A UW physician who is also a musician, composer, writer and performer will open a one-woman play at A Contemporary Theater this weekend. The show is directed by the UW School of Drama’s Cathy Madden.
University Symphony, Seattle Symphony to perform side by side Feb. 22
The UW School of Music will mark a first in its history when the University Symphony joins the Seattle Symphony in a side-by-side performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, in Meany Theater.
La Compania Nacional de Danza returns to Meany Hall
La Compania Nacional de Danza will perform at Meany Hall Feb. 28 and 29 and March 1 as part of the UW World Series.
Students develop — themselves and photos — through seminar, exhibit
Ten UW freshmen will exhibit the results from their freshmen seminar, Develop: Production of a Photo Essay, beginning today in Odegaard. The two-credit seminar is designed to help freshmen explore, capture and share their transition to the UW through the development of a photo journal.
School of Music offers voice recital, guest artists and some heavy metal rappin’
Voice students will sing, guests will perform on double bass and piano, and the UW Percussion Ensemble will rap out wild rhythms in coming days, all sponsored by the School of Music.

Zigzag: Not the shortest route, but often the most efficient
A straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it isn’t necessarily the fastest or easiest path to follow. That’s particularly true when terrain is not level, and now researchers, including one at the UW, have developed a mathematical model showing that a zigzag course provides the most efficient way for humans to go up or down steep slopes.
