Fabulous fossil
Hitchcock Hall got a new resident last week that is 85 million years old. It's a fossil of Mosasaur, a kind of giant aquatic lizard that's related to today's monitor lizards. The 15 foot fossil is part of a collection recently donated to the Burke Museum by the Seattle-area Hart family. The Mosasaur has been hung in the third floor atrium of Hitchcock. Here, Christian Sidor, left, assistant professor of biology and curator of vertebrate paelontology at the Burke, works with Bruce Crowley, the museum's fossil preparator, to get the Mososaur ready for its public debut.
