Billy Goat's grub
UW Bothell stopped using herbicides to kill weeds on campus about a year ago, says Tony Guerrero, director of facilities for the campus, and so the weeds have been flourishing. To battle them, he hired goats from the Vashon Island-based service Rent-a-Ruminant. About 60 goats in all were used to graze blackberry bushes from the grounds from last Wednesday through Tuesday. Guerrero said there’s also some talk of keeping some goats permanently at the UW Bothell some day. No special permit was needed from the city for the use of the ranging ruminants.
