Heather D. Evans

Heather D. Evans, who is receiving a bachelor's degree in anthropology and the comparative history of ideas, has been awarded a President's Medal for scholarship as a transfer student — an award given to a student who entered the UW with at least 60 transfer credits from a Washington community college.

Evans came from Shoreline Community College. She graduated from the UW last summer but is eligible to attend this June's graduation ceremony. Now 31, Evans worked full time for a Seattle law firm until 2000, when she decided to return to school. She chose community college because "I felt the small class sizes, the older student body and the affordable tuition better suited me," she said.

Evans has been selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the academic honor society that recognizes excellence in the liberal arts.

Evans has graduated summa cum laude. She has made the UW Dean's List from winter 2003 to autumn 2004. She received an undergraduate scholarship in the summer of 2004, a Goddard Scholarship in winter and spring 2004 and a University Undergraduate Research Grant in 2003-2004. She was awarded a Leona Hickman Scholarship in 2004-2005.

Evans has enrolled in the graduate program in sociology at the UW.
