UW Medicine will close the UWPN Auburn Clinic in March 2008. Plans are currently underway to help transfer Auburn patients to the seven other UWPN clinics, including the nearby Federal Way clinic.
"Though we are closing the Auburn clinic, we are not leaving the patients behind," said UWPN chief medical officer Dr. Peter McGough, UW clinical associate professor. "We are focusing on expanding our clinical offerings at our other clinics and we welcome our Auburn patients to seek care at the Federal Way clinic and throughout our Network."
UWPN is part of UW Medicine, which includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Physicians, and the UW School of Medicine. UWPN has other primary care clinics in Kent/Des Moines, Factoria, Woodinville, Issaquah, Federal Way, Belltown and Shoreline.
The Auburn clinic will be closed gradually by scaling back its hours over the next few months. The staff will work closely with patients to transfer their care to other UWPN clinics to maintain continuity of care.
"We are working with the Auburn clinic health-care professionals and staff to help them find work within UWPN," McGough said. "A lot of energy and resources is being focused on helping them find positions."
The Auburn clinic is staffed by six health-care professionals, including three family physicians and three certified physician assistants, and 13 employees. The clinic provides primary care services including, family medicine with obstetrics, preventive health care, family planning and nutrition services.
