Image from "Coastal ocean observatory extends miles up Columbia River" |
| | | UW Applied Physics Laboratory | | A bottom lander, about to be deployed at sea, carries a two-axis electrometer developed at the UW's Applied Physics Laboratory to measure very weak ocean electric fields. The technology will be exploited as part of the new center to measure the electrical conductivity of water to determine how fresh or salty the water is. It's one measurement needed to understand how waters from the Columbia River mix with ocean waters off the coast under different conditions. | highest resolution version of this photo (print ready) |
