New Song of Washington selected, "Rise Up with Pride for Washington"
Robert Roseth    roseth@u.washington.edu

The University has selected a new Song of Washington, with lyrics by Catherine Henderson, a senior in the UW's evening degree program in the humanities.

The song, "Rise Up with Pride for Washington," with music by award-winning composer Bill Conti, will be unveiled at an invitation-only event celebrating the conclusion of the successful Campaign UW: Creating Futures, which raised $2.68 billion. The event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in the Dempsey Indoor (northeast of Husky Stadium). The song will be performed at approximately 7:40 p.m., and also will be available at about 8 p.m. online at http://www.washington.edu/discovery/uwsong/.

Henderson, a mother of three and grandmother of one, transferred to the UW from Shoreline Community College in 2006. Two of her children are UW graduates.  Her son-in-law is also a UW graduate and currently attends the UW School of Medicine.

Henderson and her husband play in her band, "Quarter Past 8,"where she plays rhythm guitar, sings and writes her own songs.

For winning the contest, Henderson receives $1,000 and a lifetime membership to the alumni association. Runners up are Donna Schultz of Bellevue, an employee of Harvest Capital Advisers, and Jessica Garbern, a UW student in bioengineering. They will both receive $500.
