Congratulations!

On a picture perfect day, surrounded by over 40,000 cheering family members and friends, nearly 4,700 graduates took the field in Husky Stadium on Saturday to participate in the University of Washington's 135th Commencement Ceremony.

UW President Mark Emmert opened the celebration, which included the presentation of the Alumnus Summa Laude Dignata award to Bruce Nordstrom and the awarding of honorary Doctor of Arts degrees to Pacific Northwest Ballet's founding artistic directors, Kent Stowell and Francia Russell.

Following the commencement address by William H. Gates, UW regent and Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, degrees were conferred by regent Herb Simon and the graduates took one final triumphant walk across the giant commencement stage. As the last graduate walked off the stage, the siren sounded and the crowd roared. It was a great day to be a Husky! Read more about this wonderful celebration in the Seattle Times. Photos can be viewed via a link on the UW homepage.

Meet the gonfalonieres !

Each year the various schools and colleges select a students or students to lead their bachelor candidates into Husky Stadium at the University of Washington Commencement Ceremony. They carry special banners called gonfalons. Meet these outstanding graduates on the Gonfaloniere Page.
